Marine Compound Stressors
marine-compound-stressors-utac
Real compound marine-extreme escalation science (Wong et al. 2024, AGU Advances, DOI 10.1029/2023AV001059 -- triple compound extremes expanded 39x/3x/6x since the 1960s), connecting ocean-deoxygenation-utac (P93), coral-reef-utac (P114), and marine-heatwave-utac (P119) via the Metabolic Index (Deutsch et al. 2015, Science, DOI 10.1126/science.aaa1605). Honesty-check module (Moree et al. 2023, Biogeosciences, DOI 10.5194/bg-20-2425-2023): species-specific vulnerability, not raw stress magnitude, explains 85-88% of habitat-loss variance. Deliberately no UTAC/CREP/AFET bridge -- see DISCLAIMER.md. GenesisAeon P124.

DISCLAIMER — Real Science, a Relation Package, Two Corrections From the Original Shortlist
Why no UTAC/CREP/AFET bridge: not only because the cited literature
already provides the necessary quantitative structure -- a deliberate
choice. This project's highly speculative AFET/UTAC experiments must
never stand in the way of climate/ecology topics being accessible and
usable to people who don't work inside that construct and aren't
looking for renormalization groups. Real, checkable science, without
the burden of an unproven framework. See PACKAGE_REGISTRY.md's "Why
no UTAC/CREP/AFET bridge in the climate/ecology series" (2026-08-31) in
the GenesisAeon workspace root for the full canonical note.Status: Real, independently verified science, deliberately a relation package connecting three existing GenesisAeon packages. NO UTAC/CREP/ AFET bridge.
Where this package came from
Surfaced via a six-document multi-AI gap-analysis of the GenesisAeon climate/ecology portfolio (KlimaAktuell/, six independently-produced documents, 2026-09-01), cross-checked against PACKAGE_REGISTRY.md, then independently deep-dive re-verified before building.
Two real corrections from the original candidate summary
The initial gap-analysis pass reported this topic's escalation statistic as "24x spatial extent." Direct verification against the source (Wong et al. 2024) found the real figure is 39x, not 24x -- corrected here before any code was written.
The same pass attributed the Metabolic Index to "Deutsch, Penn & Sperling." Direct verification found the real 2015 Science paper's authors are Deutsch, Ferrel, Seibel, Poertner & Huey -- Penn and Sperling are co-authors, with Deutsch, on a different (related but distinct) 2018 paper about Permian m

GenesisAeon Package 124 — real compound marine-extreme escalation science, connecting existing GenesisAeon packages via a shared physiological mechanism. Deliberately has no UTAC/CREP/AFET bridge — see DISCLAIMER.md.
For a plain-language explanation of the same topic (German, no jargon, written for general audiences), see WHITEPAPER.md.
Where this package came from
Surfaced via a six-document multi-AI gap-analysis of the GenesisAeon climate/ecology portfolio (KlimaAktuell/, 2026-09-01), then independently deep-dive verified before building — alongside ocean-acidification-utac (P122), tropical-glacier-ecosystem-rle-utac (P123), assisted-gene-flow-utac (P125), and climate-landuse-biodiversity-nexus-utac (P126). This one is deliberately a relation package: instead of documenting an independent new domain, it connects three existing packages — ocean-deoxygenation-utac (P93), coral-reef-utac (P114), and marine-heatwave-utac (P119) — via a shared, real physiological mechanism.
What's real here
- Wong, Muennich & Gruber (2024, AGU Advances)* — real, modeled
- (1961-2020) escalation of "column-compound extremes": ocean regions
- where heat, acidity, AND low oxygen co-occur in the same water
- column (top 300m). These triple compound extremes expanded 39x
- in spatial extent, now last 3x longer, and became 6x more
- intense in 2020 versus the early 1960s.
- Deutsch, Ferrel, Seibel, Poertner & Huey (2015, Science)* — the
- Metabolic Index (Phi): a real, established ratio of oxygen
- supply to resting metabolic oxygen demand, jointly driven by
- temperature and dissolved oxygen. Projected to fall ~20% globally
- and ~50% at high latitudes this century — the physiological
- mechanism connecting this package to P93, P114, and P119.
- Moree, Clarke, Cheung & Froelicher (2023, Biogeosciences)* — a
- real, 47-species study across three marine realms: a species' own
- vulnerability (not raw environmental stress magnitude) explains
- 85-88% of the variance in actual habitat loss, strengthening
- with warming level.
Deliberately not one-sided
is_raw_environmental_stress_the_dominant_predictor() returns False — compound extremes are escalating fast, but which species actually lose habitat depends far more on species-specific physiology than on the raw stress magnitude alone.

marine-compound-stressors-utac (P124) ist der explizite Verbinder über den Metabolic Index (Deutsch et al. 2015), koppelt ocean-deoxygenation/coral-reef/marine-heatwave. ocean-acidification-utac (P122) und P124 beschreiben denselben Versauerungstrend aus zwei Blickwinkeln (Planetary-Boundary- vs. Compound-Event-Statistik).
